This has been looked at as the “beginner’s grip,” but it has been used by many professionals like Bob Estes. The grip is fairly easy to use but some people just were never taught this way. This is usually the grip used by those that did not get training early on in their golf career.
This is known as the proper golf grip because it is currently the most popular grip that you will see on the golf course. It is just like the ten finger grip but you will be putting your right pinky around he left index finger (for right handed golfers.) There are plenty of visuals on the internet but it is quite simple once you see how it looks. The grip is very secure and will create the feeling of connection between both of your hands. If you want to really feel secure during your golf swing, this is certainly the grip to use. This grip is used by players like Tiger Woods and so it is proven to truly work.
The overlap grip was created by Harry Vardon and it is he second most popular grip in golf. It is just like the interlock grip but without the pinky and index finger overlapping. This means that the pinky will simply lay on top of the crease in between the index finger and the middle finger of the left hand. This may sound confusing but it is also known as a proper golf grip that you can use. Though this might not seem as “secure,” it is still known to give great results if you get used to it.
The golf grip is all about preference and which one will actually deliver the best results. The only way to choose the right grip is by trying them all and seeing which grip will feel the best. Do not gauge it by how well the shots are hit but with how comfortable you are with the grip. This can take a few hours on the driving range but it is crucial that you figure out which grip is perfect for you and your golf game.
